Elliott created the original fetish erotica icons. At the time the artist created this piece it was impossible to buy stylish latex clothing. Undaunted, Elliott designed and created his own. This gorgeously stylish hobble skirt (a skirt designed primarily for sex appeal but which induces an unsteady gait) was bespoke fitted to the model by the artist. It was created an inch smaller than the model’s measurements to ‘snap fit’. The image is deceptively simple, like much of Elliott’s art. Observe the way the pleats in the latex dress visually echo the Venetian blinds. Note the way the blinds reflect light at left but transmit it at right. Shot on the diagonal with all colour grouped towards the top, this gives the image a dynamic quality. The pose with one leg forward and hands on hips, together express supreme confidence - the very essence of sex appeal. Think about all the erotica created in the Eighties and how awful it all looks now. This timeless masterpiece, which still looks super stylish 40 years on, is testimony to Elliott’s deep understanding of Art. Elliott initially created only twelve erotic images. They made him world famous. What would take most artists thousands of images and a lifetime to achieve, Elliott did with a dozen images. Powerful then, classic now.
